Back on the needle! That didn't last long, huh...

Well, I just got back from my endocrinologist and unfortunately, I have to start insulin tonight. It's a very low dose (6 units per day)...but she feels that my body just isn't producing enough of it on its own...and this is best for me and our baby girl.

Shooting myself up is obviously the least of my concerns...that's what happens when you go through IVF three times. It's the fact that I'll be on another medication that bothers me.

If anyone reading this has experience with taking insulin while pregnant, I'd love to hear about it...please leave a comment.

Aside from that, everything is great...I STILL haven't gone shopping but I've got plenty of time! I have a feeling this is going to be one well-dressed little girl :)

Hi there! I just wanted to tell you that even though I was not on Insulin for my Gestational Diabetes (TWICE!), I did have to take a pill the 2nd time around. My fasting glucose was too high and I could not control it no matter what I did.
You do have to watch that your numbers don't go too low, if they do, call the Dr.
Good luck !!!!!!

Hi Melissa,
I had Gestational Diabetes and had to give myself insulin once a day. It was my choice to do insulin vs. the pill because I felt the insulin was safer for my baby. In my opinion they don't know enough about that pill and prego women. Just keep candy and or nuts in your bag in case your suger gets low (that never happened to me). I gave myself the injection every day before dinner. The hardest part was trying to remember to bring the stuff with me when we went out to eat. I can answer any questions you might have via e-mail or the nest I know post under hannahbanana31 or e-mail fkflr@hotmail.com Good luck! Faye

Considering you live in shoppers' paradise (Can anyone shop like a woman from North Jersey?), I am sure that she will be the best-dressed little girl in town! I know that I am always quite willing to leave the Poconos and head out to Jersey for my shopping time...the malls there can't be beat!

I don't have much real-world advice about the insulin...but it sounds like your doctor is great to get things under control like that. I work in the NICU, and we sometimes get babies with sugar stability issues because their mommies' doctors were NOT so proactive in controlling blood sugar issues.
